Just an update on our family....

I think it's time to break the 4 month long streak of no one posting! :) We have been SUPER busy the last few weeks! Tack is in pre-k and he loves his teacher. He is already learning so much. Jake is getting so big, its hard to believe he will be 2 in a few months. He is into everything, he definatly keeps me on my toes!

Brent loves his job still. Right now it is time to wean calves, so it is one of the busiest times of the year for him. There is hardly any farming to do (which is good~the hours are long enough with over 4,000 head of cattle, much less add farming on top of it!). They did have to plant wheat a few weeks ago. But they were able to plant 1,115 acres in 10 days. Not bad with just a few guys! So for the next few weeks, they will be weaning and checking cows and moving things around and shipping them off. Brent is ready for the winter time to come, when the hours aren't so long. We also have bought a 2 year old red roan gelding and Brent is working with him. He is green broke, but he needs lots of work, still.

Ashlee is loving school this year. She is starting to take things more seriously, and realize school is not just a social gathering, but that there is a thing called "learning" involved too. Her grades are great so far. She is playing the trumpet again this year. In Cheyenne, when you are in Jr. High, you are more or less in high school. Since there are not very many students, you take your extra curricular classes with all different grades to make a full class. So she is technically in the "big band" this year. She made second trumpet, next to a boy who is a senior. There are 4 trumpet players. So she is doing really well with that. Today she is at the Oklahoma State Fair marching in the parade with the band. I wish I could have gone, but we just got back from OKC last night, and there is no way I could make the trip again today. She is also doing a lot of things in 4H. She will be showing a goat in the spring this year. She has started doing livestock and crop judging. When we had our local harvest fair, she did so well she qualified to go to state. So over the weekend, the kids and I went to OKC to the State Fair so she could do crop judging on Saturday. She was moved to the senior division because there were not enough kids to team up with in the junior age division. Ashlee and her partner came in 3rd place in the whole state! The other girl she was on a team with is also new to judging. Not bad for only their second time! In her individual score, Ashlee got 7th in the state. Now she wants to start horse judging too. But we will have to see if I have the time for that too!
Callee is doing really well in school. She is the top reader in the whole 2nd grade. Since moving to Oklahoma, she has become somewhat "obsessed" with anything Native American. So she spends her time learning about them. We have vistied several museums and different places dedicated to N.A. She has decided she wants to go to college to learn N.A. languages and how to interpret them and teach them to other people! And as always, she likes to sing when given the chance. Over the weekend at the state fair, she got up in front of several hundred people and sang karaoke.
As for me, I am busy all the time. I decided to quit my job at the hunting lodge, even though I loved the work. Since Tack started school, and has to be picked up at 11 am every day, my hours at the ranch needed to be cut down so I could go and get him. So that mean less money~but I was still having to pay the babysitter the same amount. Which really didn't make it worth it anymore. I will try to make arrangements with the kids during actual hunting season if they need me to help at the lodge. They have not found a replacement as of yet, so I'm not sure what they will do. I was going to stay until they found someone else, but my babysitter also quit to take on a full time job~so that left me without one! But I have plenty to do, so that is o.k. As the kids get older, there is more for them to be involved in. So between that and just day to day living, I am never left with nothing to do!

I guess that's about it for our family. It has been a while since we have been down to Texas, but hopefully we will be there sometime in October. Hopefully things will slow down enough around here that we can get away for the weekend! We look forward to seeing you all soon!

I wanted to take a few minutes to tell everyone how appreciative I am for everything over the last few weeks. You all will never know how much all the meals, prayers, calls, visits, etc. it all meant to my family and I during my illness. It has been a rough road but through Gods Grace I am better and getting back to normal more and more everyday. We couldn't have got by without the help from many of you and all of your prayers!. God Bless you all! I start back to work this week working part time so please keep me in your prayers as this will be a hard week. Hope everyone is doing good. And again Thank you for everything. I would love to have some feedback on what everyone thought about the trip. I know I had a blast. Philip and I discussed maybe going elsewhere next year. Any thoughts? One of my utility operators was in South Fork, CO. the same time we were in Red River, and he had stories of catching 4-5 pound brown trout out of the rivers there, so that will certainly weigh on my decision for next year, but I want to keep the location where everyone can go. South Fork is only about an hour longer drive. Some of you may want other activities besides fishing. Just let me know and I will try to find the perfect place. Exciting news...Neil received his acceptance letter to Rutgers Turf Management School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, which is just outside of New York. He will be only an hour away from Cara. She's excited about that! He's been waiting for this letter for the last month and you can imagine how excited he was to get it.

He came over tonight and I had to get a snapshot of him---this is his "Yeah! I'm on my way" look!:)

His classes will start in October. This is a 2 year course. One day he will be the Superintendant of one of the finest golf courses (in Texas)! It took him a while to figure out what he wanted to spend his future doing but now that he has decided we are so excited that God is opening the doors for him to pursue just that! Who would've thought that mowing the courthouse lawn all those years ago would inspire him to do this! Ha! Ha! (Don't believe that for a minute!:))

More exciting news! Crystal and Tyler had their sono today and it's "official"---it's a BOY! Yep! Another boy! Campbell Reed Tullos, expected to arrive November 11th! Had hoped I could start buying pinks, but Crystal says, "Maybe SEVERAL years from now!"

Tommy has been working hard getting together that fishing trip for all you guys! Right now it looks like about 17 will be going! I told him he's got to take the camera. Great blog pictures from that to be expected!!!:)

Papa and Grammy just got back from our long weekend with Whitaker. Crystal and Tyler had their annual Youth Camp, so we got the honors of hanging out with Whitaker. And what a fun time we had!
From just lounging, to the park, to the zoo and then coolin' off at the pool it was most enjoyable!!! Here are some pictures (I didn't figure you wanted to see all 100 of them!) to see how big he's getting!
After a Father's Day supper and shopping "spree" at the new Bass Pro Shop last night, we headed home at 10pm. 850 miles, 2 stops, 2 tanks of gas, 1 driver and 1 sleeper (you guess which one did what) we made it home in a record time of 12 hours!!! Guess where the driver is right now! Snoozin'!:)
Crystal and Tyler are doing wonderful. Their camp was a huge success. Lots of kids got saved and filled with the Holy Ghost!
Their sonogram is scheduled next week sometime. She thinks this one is a girl. We'll see if she's right! Another Whitaker will be just fine with all of us, though!:)
I don't think it's ever a "fix" but, as they say, we've had our "fix" until November when he/she is born!

This is how our Thurs. eve. started out!!

This is the storm as it approached from the West. The house in this pic is just across the street to the north of where we were standing.

Yes... that is what you think it is.

The house in this pic was just across the street to the East. The storm passed over us leaving only hail stones behind, and traveled on towards Hammon, but missed that town as well. Between Cheyenne & Hammon were large trees uprooted, or split in half, hail did some window and I'm sure, some roof damage, but no major damage to anyone's property, or injuries were reported. This storm was very irradic, switching directions, going E to W and N to S - just kind of circling! It was crazy. I think this same funnel, before it developed good, went right over our heads 2 or 3 times (don't worry - we were mere feet from a storm shelter).

This pic is of a funnel that was forming just to the north of the one above. I don't know if it ever touched down or not, because it moved off, and the rain at that point was so heavy, you couldn't see clearly anymore.

Welcome to perfectly healthy little Miss Lainey Grace who entered into this world today, May 20th, 2008, at 2:12 pm weighing 6lbs. 8 ozs. and 19 1/4 inches long. You can't tell by the photos but she has a ton of dark curly beautiful hair!!! Proud big sisters are Kinley and Maycie and Jade!!! Congratulations to all!!! What a blessed family we are to have this new one in our lives!!! Way to go Pam and Robert...and GOD!!!

Tommy's Trip To the Big Apple

Well, I never thought they could do it, but they finally got me there! Last week we spent a week in New York city visiting Cara and seeing the sites! What a trip it was! I never walked so much in my whole life! 5 days in the city is plenty long enough! I saw the sites I had always heard about---Stood on top of the Empire State Building; Rode the ferry out to Staton Island to see the Statue; Went to 911 site but there was just construction walls so that we were unable to see anything; Stood on Times Square with at least a million others! One of the nights we were there we got to see taping going on with Will Smith. Too far away though we didn't get a good picture of him. Rode the Subway, not just once but enough times that I should know my way around the trains, but I don't! It's a crazy way of life and for some reason Cara loves it! It was great seeing her and spending time with her and seeing her new apartment in Brooklyn. Hope you enjoy allllllll the pictures. Don't quit scrolling until you see Cara's latest creation!

No, we didn't take an airplane over the city, these are some of the pictures taken from on top of the Empire State Building. Amazing view! Amazing Trip! It was a blessing to go once, but I don't think I would ever care to go out sightseeing again. The only sight I will be seeing next time is CARA!! 'Cause it looks like she's gonna be there a while!

We were admitted in the hospital on Fri afternoon cause she had rotavirus and was severely dehydrated. Well, she did it again!!! Nicole got First Place & Grand Champion of her breed at the Woodward Co. Stockshow. However, she didn't place in the overall, but, that's O.K. She was a little disappointed, but I couldn't be happier, or prouder with what she got. Will post pics on here soon - hopefully tomorrow. Oh yeah!! I got some video footage also, including a fight between her pig and another. I'll try to post that also - if I can figure out how. It was crazy, and she got some pretty good scuff marks from it. Wish y'all could have been there!

Well... The Lady Bears lost their game last night to Arnett, so they are out of the running in the play-offs. They will still have one more game to play in the loser's bracket though. I have missed more of Kellie's games than Nicole's, so I went with Kellie yesterday, and missed Nicole. I REALLY hope someone got pics of it, but Nicole made the final shot of the game - - from the floor - - sitting on her butt, flat on the floor!! It was a buzzer beater, AND I MISSED IT!!!!!!

Kellie's AAU team played in the tournament at Ft. Elliott High School in Briscoe, TX yesterday, and took 3rd place. They beat Canadian - - TWICE!! Yeeessssss!! They played five games all together. It was a long day!! Their first game started at 10:15 am yesterday, and it was 10:58 pm when we got home last night. I had a bad case of "Bleacher Butt", but we had a good time.

2 of Jeannette's grandkids were there playing for Shamrock, so Brian and Chelle were there. I had a short visit with them, and then got to see their kids play too. They said to tell all of you Hi!

Thought I'd get to come home this weekend, but with all these games, and Nicole had to work today at 5:30 am, we just didn't make it. Hope to see you all soon though.

O.K. everyone - say a prayer for me for guidance. I was offered a job today that would nearly double my income, plus it's Mon. thru Fri. 9-5, however, it would also double my stress probably. I really like the job I have now, and everyone I work with, but could sure use the extra income. Need to make a decision pretty quick, so get on your knees and help me make the right decision.

We had a doctors appt. for the baby today.. And they are sending us to a specialist in Lubbock to look at some issues more closely with the baby. Don't know anything for sure yet but we wanted you all to know so you can use the most powerful gift we know all Hammer's have, and that is prayer. So, please just keep us in your thoughts, and we will keep you all updated. Also, I was due to have a jewelry party with Melissa at my house on Sunday, and due to conflicts I am canceling it. So, if you were planning on coming Thank you, and I will let you know when I reschedule. Again, please keep us in your thoughts..

So sorry for the loss of Lee's sister, Pat. Lee and Trudy, we know you will miss her because we all now how much you loved her...that was displayed to all of us over the years as we watched you lovingly care for her. We pray that God will give you comfort and remind you always of your wonderful memories that you have of her! We also enjoyed getting to see you again, especially Jeremy!!! (Sorry Justin didn't get to come) We already miss you all and can't wait to see you again!!!

Jesus is the reason for the season!!

Aaron is recovering nicely & was able to return to work, I was finally able to surprise Nicole this year, Albert Cole came & spent the night with us last night, and was thoroughly pleased with his gift from Santa, and Kellie is doing well & got just what she wanted for Christmas.

Now, we are off to spend the rest of the day with PaPa Leroy!

It's a GOOD DAY!

What started 4 years ago with just a few kids is surprisingly still going and growing every year. Tommy and I love this tradition and will continue to keep it going as long as kids want to keep coming. We sure might have to get a house with a bigger kitchen, though!

Only a couple of rules apply: you must be at least 3 years old and potty-trained, and, you can't eat more candy than you put on the house!! Anything else goes! We had a great time!!!

Thanks so much, moms and dads, for allowing your kids to be a part!

O.K. - here's the scoop on Aaron... He is just fine, or is going to be anyway! One side of his face is a little bruised up, including a pretty good black eye - his index finger & thumb on his left hand is jammed really bad, swollen and a little bruised - he is, of course, sore from head to toe - his right shoulder is the main problem. He has torn or stretched the ligaments that connect the bone across the top of the shoulder to the shoulder blade in the back, so that bone is "pooching up" across his shoulder and he is in pretty bad pain from that. He is finally where he can get up & down by himself a lot better, but he can't move his arm too much from the elbow up without being in agony. There is nothing they can do for it though - it just has to heal on it's own, and will probably cause him problems from now on. He has had no ill effects from his head being banged around, other than a headache for a while. No dizziness, or anything like that, so that is the main thing we were watching for. No signs or symptoms of internal injury. They thought he had 2 or 3 fractures in his neck, but a Cat Scan showed no fractures. The abnormalities on the X-rays, the Dr. said, could have been scar tissue from an old injury, or could have been something he was born with. WE ARE SO LUCKY AND BLESSED!!!

Here's what he remembers.... He was driving on a newly constructed road with fresh pavement, and shoulders that drop off to nothing, I guess where they dug out to do the new construction. A deer ran out in front of him, and he swerved to miss it. When he did, the right wheels of the truck dropped off the shoulder, and just kind of pulled him into the ditch. At this point, he was trying to slow down and stop. He looked up & saw one of those concrete medians where water drains (those are very common over here in the hills) and decided he was either going to hit the median head-on, or get back on the road, because he couldn't stop in time. When he tried to get back up on the road, as soon as the tires on the driver's side hit the edge of the pavement, he started rolling. He wound up on the oppposite side of the highway after rolling at least twice, if not three times, according to the DPS Officer at the hospital. The next thing he remembers is looking for his cell phone (which he couldn't find), and walking down the highway to get help. A lady picked him up, took him to her mother's house nearby, and they called to ambulance.

It is probably going to be a long recovery time for that shoulder, I think, and until then, his boss (Hamlin Electric) is looking for something he can do one-handed. Hopefully they will find something for him.

Please continue to pray for him for a speedy recovery, but you might send a couple prayers up in Thanks while you're at it. I will probably have pics of the pickup to post on here soon, and we will all see how much worse this could have been. I haven't seen it yet, and from what I hear, don't want too.

Allen Update

Well, the tie for Jr. Homecoming Queen has been settled. The Sr. Queen got to pick, so naturally the born & bred Cheyenne girl got it. Nicole's not too upset about it though. She was kind of expecting that. She is now looking forward to & planning for Jr./Sr. Prom. YIKES!! Coming up way to fast for Mom, but I'm looking forward to it too.

Kellie's school team played well against Sweetwater tonight beating them 28 - 4. She had a chair test today in band and moved up a spot to 3rd chair trumpet. She was happy about that.

Won't be home for Thanksgiving, so you will all have to eat a little extra for all of us if you don't mind!?!? Hope to be home sometime around Christmas, if not for Christmas. Hope everyone has a blessed holiday season.

On October 23 we got to make one of Dawson's dreams come true!! He got to see the Dallas Mavericks play the Chicago Bulls. Logan and his family joined us for the fun. We had a great trip and even made it home for school the next morning!!

My Craft Show Display

With the help of David and April I have got to participate in 2 craft shows the past 2 weekends. I have had so much fun and just wanted to show off what my wonderful husband built for me to display my bow holders, bows, headbands and baby doorhangers. I will be at the Dalhart show on December 8th if you know anyone needing bows or anything else for the upcoming holiday season please give them my info.

Another Allen Update..

Well, Kellie's School team played in Hammon last night, and were defeated 30 - 32. Pretty close game! Kellie got fouled, and made both her free-throws. She was excited about that, so she wasn't too upset that they got beat.

Her AAU team played in Sayre tonight, which I missed :-( They won (didn't get the score from her) which makes them STILL undefeated! GO LADY BEARS!!

Nicole had an awesome day today.

They played Butler tonight, which I missed :-( They won 60 - 34. Nicole got to play a lot more tonight than usual, and scored 10 points in this game.

Also, they voted for Homecoming Queen & Court today, and Nicole tied with another girl to be the Junior in the Homecoming Court. I don't know how they intend to settle the tie, and she doesn't care too much if she loses, but she is excited to have been picked at all, being new here! I kind of hope I don't have to go buy a formal, but it would be kind of neat!!

Well, my laundry is done, so I'll hang a couple things up to dry to wear tomorrow, and go to bed.
